Head of Learning & Development, Humanitarian Academy for Development (United Kingdom)
Darrell is an L&D professional for 30 years and is a Chartered Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development (FCIPD).
Darrell began his L&D career in the Civil Service with the Department for Employment (now DWP) before joining Birmingham City Council as a trainer delivering a range of courses on diverse topics but mainly Behavioural and Skills based subjects. He has been the Head of L&D in a large Police Force, Group L&D Manager at two Housing Associations as well as Head of L&D at a Charity for young homeless people in Birmingham. Darrell has also worked in the private sector as Senior Tutor and Quality Manager for an organisation delivering CIPD qualifications (certificate to Graduate level).
He ran his own L&D Consultancy for 7 years and his clients included G4S, Sellafield Nuclear Power, Lincolnshire Police, National Crime Agency, Ministry of Justice, UK Border Force, several Housing Associations and clients in the Manufacturing, ICT and Pharmaceutical industries. He has been Head of L& D at The Humanitarian Academy for Development since 2018.
Darrell holds numerous L&D qualifications including Cert. in Training and Development, Post Grad Dip. in Training Management, Dip. in Stress Management, BPS Levels A & B, Licensed (by MHFA England) Instructor in Mental Health First Aid and is a licensed MBTI Practitioner.
He was a Magistrate for 6 years and Chair of Governors in two schools for 17 years. In his leisure time, Darrell has been a Football referee since 1976 now only officiating at local level.
He enjoys reading, the Theatre and watching most sports but especially Rugby and Football (and says that he’s too old to participate now!)
